Certivance offers the ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Exam in a traditional paper format. These exams are supervised by certified Certivance Instructors/Proctors and follow the official policies of the National Restaurant Association.

What You Need to Bring
Valid Photo ID
Government-issued or school ID required.
No photocopies are accepted.
Certivance provides all other required materials, including pencils and exam booklets.
Exam Day Process
If You Are Attending a Class
Check-In: When you arrive for your scheduled class, sign in at the registration desk and present your photo ID.
Training & Exam: The class will conclude with the ServSafe® exam, proctored on-site. Your instructor will walk you through exam setup and policies.
If You Are Taking a Standalone Exam
Arrival: Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled exam start. Late arrivals may not be admitted.
Check-In: Present your photo ID to the proctor and sign the Examinee Entry/Exit Log.
General Information
Personal Belongings: Phones, calculators, bags, and other items must be stored away.
Instructions: Follow all proctor directions before opening your sealed exam booklet.
Completing the Exam: Use the #2 pencils provided. Make sure answers are filled in clearly — stray marks can affect scoring.
During the Exam
The exam has 90 multiple-choice questions.
Standard time: 2 hours (3 hours maximum with approved accommodations).
Passing score: 75% or higher.
No talking, sharing, or accessing personal items during the exam.
Learners requiring accommodations must request them in advance following ServSafe®’s process.
After the Exam
Return all exam materials to your proctor.
Scores are typically posted within 10 business days.
Certificates:
Digital certificates are uploaded to My Certivance.
Learners may also create a ServSafe® account and enter the Exam Session ID provided on exam day to view results.
Certivance mails a laminated/printed certificate as a complimentary value-added service for all in-person, corporate, and in-person proctored exams.
Rescheduling Policy
If you are unable to attend your scheduled class or exam, please contact Certivance in advance to reschedule. Rescheduling is subject to our official Enrollment Policy to ensure consistency.
Retesting Policy
If you do not pass, you may schedule a retest in accordance with ServSafe® policies.
Retesting is limited to two attempts within 30 days; after that, a 60-day wait is required.
A maximum of four attempts are allowed in any 12-month period.
Additional fees apply for retests.
