Exam Access Code
Exam Access Code - Remote Classes
Your Exam Access Code will be emailed on class day.
You’ll receive it as part of your class materials, along with instructions on how to sign into the exam.
Exam Access Code - Computer Based Training
You receive your course + exam access code immediately when you purchase your Online Course & Proctored Exam.
Your code appears on your Certivance invoice.
Invoices are delivered by email (check spam/junk if it hasn’t arrived).
You can also access your invoice anytime in My Certivance → Invoices.
Please keep this code — it is required to access both your online course and your ProctorU exam.
Pre-Class
Create a ServSafe® Account
Log in or register at ServSafe.com.
Create a ProctorU Account
Go to ProctorU and create an account.
Make sure ServSafe® is selected as your institution.
Confirm your email to activate your account.
Test your browser
Log-in to your ProctorU account.
Open a new tab on your browser and use this link Proctor U Browser Test. (See System requirements step 5)
Schedule Your Exam
Log into ProctorU → Schedule New Session → select ServSafe® Manager.
Schedule at least 72 hours in advance (included in exam fee).
Less than 72 hrs = ProctorU charges an extra fee ($8 for 24–72 hrs, $12 for <24 hrs).
System Requirements
Desktop/laptop only (no Chromebooks, tablets, or phones).
Download the Guardian Browser from ProctorU.
Run a system check once logged into your ProctorU account.
Reliable internet, webcam, microphone, and a private, quiet space required.

On Exam Day
Prepare your space
Quiet, private room with a clean desk.
No phones, headsets, smartwatches, or non-religious headwear.
Sit at a desk or table (not a couch or bed).
Have your photo ID ready
Government-issued or school ID required.
Log into ProctorU (via Guardian browser)
Do this about 20 minutes before your scheduled start time.
Download any additional software as prompted.
Connect with your proctor
A live proctor will guide you via chat.
They will verify your ID and inspect your testing space.
Start your exam
Log into ServSafe® using this link only (do not use your ServSafe® dashboard).
Enter your Exam Access Code when prompted.
The proctor will enter their code to unlock your exam.
Take your exam
You have 2 hours to complete the exam.
Review your answers before clicking Submit.
After Your Exam
You’ll see an immediate pass/fail notification.
Results are emailed to you and also available in your ServSafe® account under Scores.
If you pass: You can print your certificate instantly from ServSafe.com → Certificates.
If you fail: You may retest under ServSafe®’s policy (up to 2 attempts in 30 days, then a 60-day wait).

IF YOU DO NOT SHOW FOR YOUR SCHEDULED EXAM SESSION YOU WILL BE CHARGED A FEE BEFORE YOU ARE ABLE TO RESCHEDULE. THIS FEE WILL ALSO APPLY IF YOU CANCEL YOUR SESSION WITH LESS THAN 24 HOURS NOTICE.
